Lions Heart
The Lions and Cougars battled all night. Springfield carried a lead of 3-0 into halftime, and held the Lions in check until 1:30 in the third quarter. Two years ago the Lions and Cougars exchanged drives in the fourth quarter that resulted in a Penncrest victory. The Drive II. Greg Tyrrell scrambled 12 yards converting a huge third down as the third quarter expired. Terrence Jackson picked up five of the toughest yards we have ever seen as he dragged everyone to pickup a key first down. 4th and 15? No problem. Tyrrell scrambled left and found Elliott Nicholas underneath. Nicholas ignited the jets to pick up the first. The Lions seemed to stall at the Cougar 6. Tyrrell, running the option held and took the hit just as he optioned to Jackson. Terrence barreled, juked, twisted, and rumbled through the entire defense for the score.
Our young Lions had to preserve a 7-3 lead with 9:01 remaining. Our Defensive line was led by Jackson and Douge. Despite the tough pressure and hits, the Cougars' final drive came down to 1st & goal at the 3 with 3 seconds remaining - where the Lions held. Shelton Brown picked up a key turn over, Bixler (1 int.) and Jordan came up with excellent open field tackles all night.
