Penncrest vs Haverford
The first home game of the season was against Haverford and won by the Lions 14-10.
Dan Fisher played quarterback for all but two series, his back up, Tyler Kight played the first two series of the third quarter.
The defense was awesome and gave up very little except for an end run of 65 yards for a TD. Haverford punted in the first quarter to the Lions 1 yard line. On third and 9 one of the running backs was tackled in the end zone for a safety. The key to the defense was the sure tackling of Nick Newman, Diego Zubieta, Bob McCafferty and others.
On offense the Lions are getting quite daring! Quarterback Fisher passed to his favorite target Bob McCafferty for a 15 yard gain and Bob flipped "a hitch and trailer play" to Diego Zubieta for another 15 yards. The next play was a lateral to Zubieta who hit McCafferty for a 25 yard touchdown pass. The extra point failed. The next time the Lions got the ball Fisher drove them to the 25 yard line where on a left side trap play, Rashad Johnson ran 25 yards for a TD. Zubieta faked a kicking extra point and passed to McCafferty for the two point conversion.
Special teams led by kicker Nick Newman tried an onside kick and recovered. The next play was a lateral to Zubieta who faked a pass to McCafferty and passed back to Fisher who was tripped up by the only defender on that side of the field. Not a happy camper as the end zone was in sight with nobody in from of him.
The game ended with Haverford driving down the field but the defense stiffened and time ran out as McCafferty intercepted the final pass of the game on the 25 yard line.
